Vision Statment

Image
For this weeks blog we had to create as vision statment. A vision statement is pretty much a formal pitch as to what your game is about. You would usually present this type of documentation to the company you work for and then they'll pretty much give you the go ahead or tell you to bin the idea. A Vision statement is also off value to the designers. It eliminates uncertintay and should provide them with the answers to any questions they may have. Vision Statement:   Title: Down Hill skate – Down Hill adreanline Rushing skateboard simulation- for iphone andriod/ miningame.   Description: The game is simple you are a skateboard rider from the San franciisco bay area who speeds down hills at death defying speeds in your spare time for the fun of it.  The player has to navigate his way down hill swerving in and put of cars and avoiding obstacles such as grains and cones. The objective of the game is to collect as many coins/ tokens as possible without getting hit. The Game becomes mor

Unity Tutorial 3

Image
This weeks unity Tutorials were quite time consuming. I spent the recommend time limit 0f 190 mins or 1 and only managed to complete tasks 2.1, 2.2 and about a quarter of 2.3. I these tutorial we had to put together a game where a farmer or the character is feeding 3 animals food. we learnt about prefabs and also recapped on a lot of the information from previous Tutorials. The objective of the game is for the player to launch or eject a Sandwich to destroy the animals. We also learned about key presses which in this case is the pressing of the space bar to shoot out sandwhiches. This week I felt a bit more comfortable then last im confident setting up a project oppening scenes and a assets. The C# coding isn't too bad either I haven't fully wrapped my head around it yet but im getting there.  shorturl.at/uyCTX

Games MDA

Image
Here are my learnings after my attempt of this weeks reading tasks. MDA is a framework we can use when breaking down games that helps us establish what is good and about games and what makes people like them. MDA stands for Mechanics, Dynamics and Asthetics. Mechanics: The mechanics of a game are the motions that happen within the game e.g running, Jumping, Swiping etc. Different games can have different dynamics e.g Subway surfers the main mechanics of the game are sliding left and right jumping and crouching. But it games like call of duty there are more mechanics like running sprinting crouching shooting looking at maps changing guns etc.. Dynamics: The Dynamics of the game are what happens when the mechanics are put to use. When mechanics are combined together to achieve an outcome. E.g. In the Call Of Duty games the mechanics of running jumping and shooting are all used together to shoot and kill an opponent. In this situation I believe killing the opponent would be the Dynamic.

Feedback Stratagies

Image
The First article I read was "Be a Mirror" by Gravity Goldberg.  shorturl.at/jrwFO As a person that wouldn't know how to approach giving feedback. I received a number of tips from this article that will make it a lot easier. 1. Be a mirror. When giving feedback its important to reflect back on the work that is there not the work that is not there. So reflect back on what has been done not what is missing.  2. Focus on the process. 3. Take yourself out go the equation. It is important when giving feedback that you make sure it doesn't turn personal this can be done by removing phrases such as "I think" and "personally" With "when you" This keeps the attention away from you. The second article I read was "how to give feedback without being a jerk" By Adam Grant shorturl.at/vI136 From reading this article there were a few tips that I think are very valuable when it comes to giving feedback because they give many different approach

Game Idea Research

Image
The Game I have decided to proceed with from my game brainstorm last week is my hill bomber game. The basic concept behind the game is the player is on a skateboard rolling down a hill. the objective of the game is to collect as many coins/tokens as you can before hitting or crashing Into something. the player will have to swerve in and out of obstacles cars and puddles by using the left and right arrow keys to turn and the up arrow key to jump.  Research: The Idea behind this game comes from a game called subway surfers its a similar layout but instead of playing in lanes like in subway surfers the player has to manoeuvre all in one lane. Recently I was watching videos of the some skaters in San Francisco and they would go flying down hills at ridiculous speeds sometimes just missing cars and other obstacles. upon further research I came to learn of That San Francisco is know for having the craziest hill bombers dating all the way back to the early 90s. According to a mens journal ar

Unity Tutorial 02

Image
In this weeks unity tutorial we finished off our first project of driving the car this week we coded the game so that we could navigate the car forwards, backwards, left and right with the arrow keys on our computer. The tutorials were very good and clear at explaning how to do everything I feel like I would have been completely lost without them. After completing that first task we were then give a challange task of fixing up and writing various code that allowed a plane to move up and down on the vertical axis and the goal was to be able to navigate it through a set of obstacle. The Task was not too hard with the help of the tutorials and previous knowledge from the project before made it pretty straight forward one part of it that caught me off guard was getting the camera to track the plane properly but when I watched a quick tutorial it all made sense and was plane sailing from there. After only completing 2 tasks I feel like I would be comfortable navigating the software opening

Game Elements

Image
For this blog post I have decided to carry out a critical analysis on one of the few games I have experience with. The Fifa Series. Players: I firstly would describe Fifa as a Head to head type of play. In the game players can battle each other or against the system in a simulated game of football. They compete against each other for valuables such as in game credits, new players to add to their team or simply just for entertainment. Objective: The game Fifa has multiple objectives: Firstly Territorial whilst playing a match against an opponent the players duel it out chasing a virtual ball around the field they have to try and score in the oppositions net and also defeat their own area also. Collection: Whilst playing online players earn virtual money in the form of coins when they win a game. this money can build up to be spent on packs and other things that will help the progression of their team and make them stronger. Build: Build and collection I think go hand in hand in a lot o

Game brainstorm

Image
For my First Method of brainstorming ideas I used the scamper method to come up with an idea of a game. I took the general principal of Subway Surfers: A game where the player is on the run from a train warden riding a hover board Weaving in and out of train and tram tracks. For my first idea I wanted to do a similar game except swap out the train and tram tracks with a downward sloping road and instead of a hover board the player is controlling a skate board and he has to weave in and out of cars and obstacles such as cones and road blocks in order to avoid death. the game will get progreeesivly faster the longer the game lasts until the player eventually dies. I call this Game Hill Bomber                                                                      shorturl.at/syETX shorturl.at/aoFM2 For my second method I want to create a sporting game somehow so I took the Brainstorm approach. I Listed out some sports and the actions that occur within these sports and it looked like this I

Game Design

Image
The Text in the first Article What is a game Anyway?  was quite accessible and easily read. it provided insight clear insight into what a game is. Many definitions were provide to us in this piece.  One that I believe sums up the description of a game is a voluntary effort or action to overcome an unecessary challenge or task. I attempted to read the second article  The organic nature of game ideation  But I found the wording and information in this article very challenging and difficult to understand. whilst I still attempted to read the language used made it very difficult to absorb the information being shared. The final article  Four Basic Methods for Generating Ideas  was easier to consume as opposed top the second. Here we learned of 4 different methods used when coming up with new game concepts 1 .concentration This method appeals to me because you are influenced by your surroundings. So varying locations and environments equates for different results and outcomes. 2. Brainstor

Time Stratagies

The first of the 2 articles I chose to read was "How to beat procrastination" by Caroline Webb. https://hbr.org/2016/07/how-to-beat-procrastination I chose this article to read first because I personally think I'm the king at procrastination. Its probably my biggest downfall when it comes to completeitng tasks. I know I'm well capable for the work I just find any excuse not to do it. All of the tips and advice she gave in the article were very true but the was one that I think will probably benefit me the most and it was this. "visualise how great it will be to get it done" This advice designated with me the most because whenever I put something off I make it 10 times more stressful for myself by not doing it. And the feeling of accomplisment when you Finnish something on time or even ahead of schedule is a nice feeling.  The second article I chose to read was "time management tips just for creatives." by Amanda  Oliverhttps://www.canva.com/learn/

Technology week 2

The graphics creation part of this course probably excites me the most out of all the tools we will be using throughout this course. simply because I've used / have experience with all the other tools. specifically Unity I imagine will be the programme we will be using the most but I guess I just have to wait and see what happens throughout the module this semester. https://blog.inkforall.com/whats-a-content-creator
